Why Newman?

John Henry Cardinal Newman (1801-1890) was a scholar, gentleman, minister, and spokesperson for the Church of England, leader of the second Reformation, convert to Catholicism, and member of the College of Cardinals of the Roman Catholic Church.

In the United States, the name "Newman" is often associated with a Catholic student group or center on the campus of a college or university. From 1939 until 1999, the University of Toledo Catholic Student Association was formally known as the "Newman Club." CSA continues the tradition of Catholic campus ministry at UT, and strives to keep the spirit of Newman and his teachings alive.

In January 1991, John Henry Newman was declared "Venerable," the first step to sainthood in the Catholic tradition.

Catholic Bible Study
Ever wonder about the point of the Gospel reading you just heard?  Want to get more out of Mass?  Join us Mondays at 7:30 p.m. in the Daily Chapel at Corpus Christi for a weekly "retreat" at Catholic Bible Study (CBS), where we break open the Sunday Scriptures and find meaning in them for our daily lives.  Both students and permanent community are always welcome.  Contact Scott Woods for more information.
